Our Community Heroes

“Kerry has been part of the Hawthorn family for five years, running the Red Lion in Yarnton and it is a true Partnership. I have great respect for what Kerry has achieved. Kerry has created a beloved community pub and is a local hero for the village and Hawthorn."
Andy Parker,
Director of Leased and Tenanted Operations

Since day one, Kerry has been involved in village fundraising activities, in particular raising awareness for the homeless and less fortunate. Kerry runs a village collection for the homeless of Oxford and goes out into the city during the winter with clothing, food and even offers haircuts. In lockdown, the success of the newly launched Red Lion community podcast provided a platform to launch the "Yarnton and Begbroke Help Hub from the Pub". The pub-led initiative created a local food bank and an elderly and vulnerable support network. The food bank was placed at the front of the pub in March and is still an integral part of the Red Lion's community work. This continues to be supported by locals and villagers, even those that do not use the pub.

Since Kerry has been at the helm, the Red Lion is the village community hub. Everybody meets at the Red Lion. Kerry hosts birthday parties for all of her locals and regulars, Quiz Nights, Pool Nights, Darts Nights, Children's Parties, Halloween parties, Christmas Parties, Theme nights and still finds time to produce the Red Lion podcasts, deliver a great food offer and run the pool, darts and Aunt Sally teams.
