Hathern community pub, the Dewdrop Inn, has undergone a large refurbishment ready for reopening.

After a number of decades with no investment at the pub, partner Mike Grossner and his wife Karen have invested a large sum of money to improve and upgrade both the interior and exterior of the Dewdrop Inn.

The pub is owned by Hawthorn, the community pub company, which owns more than 700 pubs across Scotland, England and Wales.

Affectionately known as the ‘Double D’, the pub has seen upgrades including a complete redecoration, reupholstering of the seating, a new catering kitchen, decking to the front of the building, development of the rear beer garden, opening up of ‘the snug’, a new cellar refit, and new signage and lighting.

Having originally visited the pub from Kansas, Mike and Karen took an immediate shine to the Dewdrop Inn and were sold on its traditional British charm. Karen, who is also a chef for the pub, will be launching a new ‘light bite’ menu with basket meal burgers and snacks, which will also include some of her own secret Midwestern creations.

As well as managing the Dewdrop Inn, Mike is also the Head Coach of the Leicester Falcons American Football Team. In order to further support their local community, the pub has sponsored Hathern FC football team and will be celebrating the team’s victories with the players.

Mike said: “We wanted to make sure we kept the feeling of a traditional pub with our upgrade at the Dewdrop and we want to welcome as many members of the local community as possible. Our outdoor space is crucial in allowing us to reopen, and we have created 42 new seats, with an additional 12 from the snug garden room, which means we have much more space. Our pub is at the heart of the community and we’re so glad we can start welcoming our locals back.”

Andrew Parker, Director of Leased and Tenanted Operations, Hawthorn, said: “We’re proud to be a community pub company, and it’s more important than ever to serve our communities at times like this. It’s the sign of a truly great community pub that the Dewdrop Inn can continue to have such a positive impact even when it’s closed, so well done to Mike and Karen for the fantastic job they’re doing, from all of us at Hawthorn!”
