Gainsborough Arms goes the extra mile with Meals on Wheels

The Gainsborough Arms, Milborne Port, is going the extra mile to ensure that local residents are provided for.
Pub manager, Fiona Crawford, has been delivering meals on wheels to those in the community forced to self-isolate as a result of Coronavirus, as well as collecting prescriptions, delivering shopping and running local errands.
The pub, owned by Hawthorn, a community pub operator which owns more than 700 pubs across England, Scotland and Wales, is hoping that by offering takeaway meals at cost price, they are able to protect the vulnerable in their community, who are now quarantining following updated government guidelines.
Pub partner Fiona Crawford said: “We are very aware that many in our community are isolated, and unable to rely on help from others during this difficult time. We’re fortunate that we are able to offer some support, and it’s been very well received! We delivered roast dinners to over 30 people on Mothering Sunday, and we hope that more locals will take advantage of our services.”
Hawthorn CEO, Mark Davies, said about The Gainsborough Arms: “We are delighted that our partners are finding ways to work with the community to benefit both their business and the locals. It is more important than ever that our pubs are community hubs, so we urge everyone in the Hawthorn team to pull together and continue to support those in need.”

Whilst we appreciate the clarity around dates for reopening, there’s little else in this roadmap to be positive about. The sector's enormous investments and efforts to make premises COVID-safe last year have been completely overlooked again, and we find ourselves at the back of the queue for reopening, under conditions which simply won’t work for most pubs. The substantial meal and curfew have been rightfully consigned to history, but outdoor-only opening is not a viable proposition for many.
