Our high income, asset-backed portfolio of over 700 community pubs across England, Scotland, and Wales, where 99% of our sites are freehold, provides us with significant operational flexibility. Many of our pubs are based in community and suburban locations and are at the heart of communities, surrounded by chimney pots. These attributes deliver all-important income growth. As well as being highly cash generative, our pubs sites can provide strong alternative use potential. We have a track-record of developing surplus land such as pub car parks into convenience stores, residential units, and a range of other uses benefitting the community.

We can achieve further growth through our scaleable business model. Our management team have a strong track-record of accretive acquisitions, each time delivering synergies. The driving force of our business is our best-in-class operating platform. Our Birmingham-based team comprises dedicated business development, finance and marketing professionals. Together, these provide a powerful force that provides targeted support to our pub partners and deliver growth for our business. The hard work and dedication of our pub partners is central to Hawthorn’s success. We pride ourselves on having strong relationships, generating trust and goodwill that in turn ensures great business outcomes and excellent retention.

And this platform is headed up by a highly experienced management team, which collectively has decades of experience in the UK pub industry. Our team is pro-active, hands-on, and fully engaged with government, local authorities and industry bodies.

Some of Our Latest Reviews

  • “We want to thank Hawthorn for the support and assistance provided to us. In what has been a very challenging year, the financial and personal support has been a lifeline. It has also given us a chance to refurb the pub inside and winterise the garden for early 2021. Thank you for the ongoing support.”
    Sam Hill, Red Lion, Machynlleth
  • “The communication from Hawthorn is great. This has included a support structure encompassing other partners, timeous summaries of new legislation and recommendations and most importantly a point of contact who has been both sympathetic and empathetic to our position as operators.
Hawthorn have undoubtedly been an example to all [through COVID-19]. Not only the level of support financially, but the understanding of cash flow and business needs has been just what was required. Our survival is testament to the way that Hawthorn have supported us.”
    Iain Mclaren, Crafty Fox, Glasgow
  • “We are very happy with the way that Hawthorn has handled the situation [COVID-19], and we feel that they have been incredibly fair. Nobody knows what will happen in the future, and we’re grateful that we have some financial security moving forward. Hawthorn are always at the end of the phone when we need them, and we’ve loved working with them so much that we will soon be taking on a second pub!”
David Robertson, from The Railway Inn, West Calder
  • “Hawthorn has always been very helpful and supportive, and particularly during COVID, I could not fault them. In addition to being a big help financially [during COVID]. Hawthorn has been ahead of the game with customer communications, providing PPE, to technical services support to get the cellar ready for reopening. The communication has been consistent from day one, and our wellbeing has been a priority.”
    Des Sweeney, Cross Keys, Epperstone
  • “My experience with Hawthorn within the last year of taking over the Needlemakers Arms has been rewarding for ourselves. Throughout COVID-19, Hawthorn has been reassuring, supportive and fair. Our BDM has always kept me updated with new restrictions and gave me different ideas to keep going. He is always a call away for support and is understanding with any situation. Over the past year, Hawthorn has supported us every step of the way; myself and Ade are grateful for this.”
    Angie, Needlemakers Arms, Studley
  • “Hawthorn has been nothing but great. They care about their partners, and the support they have given me is second to none. Working with our BDM has been amazing. He goes above and beyond to help, and bring out the best in people. There are no problems, only solutions. ”
    Nicki, Albion Inn, Tewkesbury
  • “It was quite a daunting task to sift through all the potential pub opportunities that were/are available in the marketplace. In fact, out of all of the enquiries I made, only David Stallard from Hawthorn and a family brewery, actually responded in any meaningful way to my initial enquiry and subsequent follow up. Hawthorn immediately supplied me with all the information that I required, detailing both benefits and risks. I was put in touch with the outgoing landlord and other resources that helped me confidently put a business plan together. I can honestly say that without Hawthorn and my BDM's industry knowledge, help and guidance, we would still be looking for a pub now. I would not have taken the leap into a pub partnership, which it clearly is in these difficult times, without David's initial and continuing support. ”
